Sonia Mukherji

Sonia Mukherji is a professionally trained Indian classical dancer with 18 years of training in the Oddissi dance form. She completed her Manchapravesh (dance graduation) after training under various renowed figures of Odissi including the late Padma Vibhushan Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra, Srimati Sujata Mohaptra, Sukanya Tagore Mukherjee, and Paushali Mukherjee. In addition to Oddissi, she has performed modern dance styles such as Bollywood, Bhangra, Garba, and hip-hop. Sonia has also learned contemporary dance from choreographer Terrence Lewis of Dance India Dance fame, and was in the Montgomery Blair Pom-Pom Squad (dance team) in high school. Notable performances include performing at the International Oddissi Dance festival, the Kennedy Center, the Smithsonian, and performing award-winning dances at the Bhangra Blowout competition as part of the University of Maryland Bhangra Team, and more recently at Naya Andaz 2011. At 17, Sonia won Miss India Maryland at the Miss India USA pageant held in New York. She loves to dance.
